CBD & CBG are great for people but what about pets?
If you've read our other blogs or our About US, you'll know that our Furry Friend Izeah was our first introduction to CBD and where we first realized it's potential benefits.
Alternative medicine options have grown in popularity and CBD, as well as the other cannabinoids, are a big part of that movement. And while its becoming well known that these options are great for humans, scientific studies show great potential for pets as well. So let's look at some of the health benefits for our Furry Friends!
CBD for nervous pets and pets with separation issues
While more studies are needed to show the full potential, efficacy and safest methods of introducing cannabinoids to our pups diets and daily lives, the results of studies past are very promising and exciting!
Just like in humans, CBD, CBG and other cannabinoids interact with the natural endocannabinoid system (ECS) in our pups to help their bodies and minds function at their best. This includes calming their stress reactions when exposed to physical things like thunder or fireworks, so that your dog can enjoy a fourth of July just like you can.
Where promise has also been shown is in cases of separation issues. Again these cannabinoids have been shown to reduce the overall stress responses that occur in separation situations, making CBD & CBG great for pups that are left at home while at work or running errands.
CBD and CBG for achey joints and aging dogs
Many people find that CBD (cannabidiol) has a great affect on dogs with aging bones and discomfort but studies are now showing that CBG (cannabigerol) has potentially even more of a positive impact, specifically on the body.
While CBD has been shown to indirectly affect with the ECS, CBG has been shown to directly interact with the ECS receptors making it potentially more affective for things like achey joints from arthritis, injuries, old age etc.
Can I give my dog CBD every day?
We sure do! All of the studies out there have shown no sign that giving your pet CBD or CBG every day has any negative affects. And if your pup is a little or a lot nervous about, well, everything (like ours is), then being able to give them some peace and calm so that they can just be a dog is so worth it! Just be sure to start with recommended doses and find your pups perfect balance.
How to choose the right CBD/CBG for your Furry Friend
First of all, you want to know where the hemp comes from. A lot fo CBD out there is sourced from and made from hemp that is purchased from unknown farms with unknown growing practices. If the CBD company you're looking at doesn't grow it themselves, chances are they don't even know where it came from. Stick with a farm to tincture company that doesn't use pesticides or heavy chemicals in their grows.
Look for broad and full spectrum products, that contain the other minor cannabinoids, which are beneficial to the overall effectiveness of the product. If it does contain THC (like a full spectrum product), make sure that it does not exceed the safe and legal .3%.
Look for one specifically for pets. While tinctures for humans generally contain the same basic ingredients, they dont always, and the dosages are generally much higher. Not to mention the flavors added may not suit your pups taste.
Just like with human CBD, making sure that the product has a COA (certificate of analysis) or lab result, showing that what they say is in there, is really in there, is very important.
Will my dog get high?
No, your dog wont get "high" but they will likely be buzzin! Look for a change in their demeanor. Most often your dog will just act more like a dog! Happy, unfazed and ready for adventure... Or to snuggle up on the couch.
